Solheim Cup Opens in the Netherlands as Europe Seeks to Reclaim Trophy from Defending U.S. Champions

The 20th Solheim Cup begins Friday at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, Netherlands, with Europe seeking to reclaim the trophy on home soil. The United States leads the all-time series 11-8 and arrives as defending champion after defeating Europe 15½-12½ in Virginia in 2024. Europe previously won in 2019 and 2021 and retained the Cup after the teams tied in 2023.

The opening session will feature four foursomes matches, beginning at 1:40 a.m. ET. Charley Hull and Lottie Woad will face Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz in the marquee match, reviving the rivalry between Hull and Korda after Hull defeated Korda 6 and 4 in their Sunday singles match at the 2024 event. Korda and Corpuz also bring an unbeaten 4-0 foursomes record from the 2023 and 2024 competitions.

The remaining opening matches pit Europe’s Nanna Koerstz Madsen and Celine Boutier against Alison Lee and Lauren Coughlin at 1:52 a.m.; Esther Henseleit and Leona Maguire against Andrea Lee and Lindy Duncan at 2:04 a.m.; and Maja Stark and Linn Grant against Rose Zhang and Jennifer Kupcho at 2:16 a.m. The second Friday session, consisting of four-ball matches, had not yet been announced.

Golf Channel will provide live coverage from 1:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, with streaming available through GolfChannel.com and the Golf Channel app. The match-play schedule sets the stage for an early test of Europe’s home advantage against an American team attempting to retain the Cup.
